Terms of service and privacy policy
The rules that govern using DatingsForum, a disabled dating site - written in plain English first, then in the formal language lawyers need. Both versions carry equal weight. If you find anything unclear, tell us and we'll rewrite it.
Plain-language summary
If you only read one thing on this page, read this. It captures the spirit of the full terms in five short bullets.
The formal terms below add detail, cover edge cases, and satisfy legal requirements. Where the summary and the formal terms appear to conflict, we will interpret in favor of member protection.
Acceptable use and community standards
DatingsForum is a disabled dating site built on respect between adults. By creating an account, you agree to follow these standards. Violations are reviewed by human moderators, not automated systems alone.
Prohibited behavior
- Ableism. Mocking disabilities, using slurs (including "r-word," "crippled" as an insult, "psycho," "lame" as pejoratives), framing disability as tragedy, or treating disabled members as "inspiration." First offense: warning plus content removal. Repeat offense: permanent ban.
- Devotee and fetish behavior. Expressing sexual or romantic interest specifically because of a disability, mobility aid, or medical device. This includes amputee, wheelchair, blind, or little-person fetishism. Detected on first offense: permanent ban. No appeal.
- Sexual harassment. Unsolicited explicit messages or images, pressure after a "no," or any contact after a block. Escalates to ban and, where applicable, law-enforcement referral.
- Discrimination based on disability, race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, or national origin.
- Impersonation, scams, and catfishing. Profiles must represent a real adult human. Reverse-image-search-detected stock photos are removed.
- Underage users. DatingsForum is strictly 18+. Verified underage accounts are deleted and, where required, reported.
Enforcement and appeals
Reports are reviewed within 24 hours during weekdays and within 48 hours on weekends. Decisions are communicated by email. You may appeal a suspension once by replying to the moderation notice; a second moderator reviews independently. Devotee-ban decisions are final because fetishization causes ongoing harm to the community.
Your disability data is sensitive
Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR Article 9) and the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by CPRA (Civil Code §1798.140(ae)), information that reveals health or disability status is "special category" or "sensitive personal information." We apply that classification to every field in the DatingsForum Deets section, any free-text disclosure elsewhere in your profile, and anything you write in messages about your condition.
Lawful basis and consent
We process disability information only on the basis of your explicit, freely given consent, granted at the moment you enter it. You can withdraw consent at any time from Settings → Privacy → Deets, which hides the field and removes it from future match previews.
Purpose limitation
Disability data is used for one purpose only: showing your profile to other members who have opted in to see it. It is never used for advertising, never shared with third-party networks, never included in analytics exports, and never referenced in moderation automation.
No sale, no rent, no share
We do not sell your personal information as that term is defined under the CCPA, and we do not share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. This is a permanent commitment written into our data architecture: advertising SDKs are not installed on the platform.
Data retention and deletion
When you delete your account, we begin deletion immediately. Full timelines below:
- Profile content (bio, photos, Deets, mood tags): removed from public view instantly; permanently deleted from primary storage within 7 days.
- Messages sent to other members: removed from your account instantly; other participants retain their copy as part of their own conversation history unless they also delete.
- Video verification recordings: deleted within 24 hours of successful verification (see next section).
- Account identifiers (email, password hash, IP logs): deleted within 30 days. Kept temporarily to prevent re-registration by banned users.
- Encrypted backups: purged on a rolling 90-day cycle. No data is recoverable beyond 90 days.
- Legal and safety records (evidence tied to an open investigation or harassment report): retained only as long as the matter is active, then deleted.
Export your data before deletion via Settings → Privacy → Download My Data. You will receive a JSON archive by secure link within 48 hours.
How we handle verification data
To earn a verified badge, members record a short video clip following an on-screen prompt (for example, a specific hand gesture). A trained human reviewer compares the video to the profile photos, confirms the person is real, and approves or requests a retake. The video itself is deleted within 24 hours of the decision - we retain only a verified/not-verified flag and the date. Verification videos are never shown to other members, never used to train AI models, and never shared outside the moderation team. If your verification is denied, you may request written feedback and retry after 72 hours. Members who cannot complete video verification because of disability (for example, Deaf members for whom an audio prompt is inaccessible, or members with involuntary movements) can request an alternate verification path by emailing [email protected].
