Why we exist

Why this platform exists

Online dating is supposed to widen your world. For disabled adults, it often narrows it. Mainstream apps reward snap judgments, prize highly curated photos, and leave no room for access needs, communication differences, or fatigue. The result is a loneliness gap that is measurable, documented, and - most importantly - not your fault.

Research from the Brown University School of Public Health, published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, surveyed more than 3,800 working-age disabled adults in the United States. In 2019-2020, 65% reported severe loneliness. By 2024, that number had risen to 68%. For reference, only about 8-10% of non-disabled adults report similar feelings. When a third of you feels left out and two-thirds of you feels alone, the problem isn't a personal failing. It's a structural one - and it deserves a structural answer.

DatingsForum was built as one small part of that answer: a dating sites for people with disabilities where access is a shared logistic, not an afterthought; where disclosure is neutral, not a confession; and where slow, steady communication is the default, not a quirk.

What we believe

Inclusive dating principles we live by

These aren't marketing lines. They're the rules our moderators enforce and the defaults our product is built around.

  1. Ask, don't assume

Access needs are personal. Nobody on DatingsForum - member or moderator - decides what you can do, what you want, or what you need. Questions are welcome; assumptions aren't.

  2. Access is shared logistics, not a favor

Planning an accessible date is a normal part of planning a date. Curb cuts, quiet rooms, captioned videos, and rest breaks aren't accommodations granted from above - they're how adults make plans.

  3. Slow is a feature, not a bug

There are no streaks. No read receipts shaming you for a late reply. No swipe counters. Take a week between messages if that's your pace. Your spoons, your timeline.

  4. Devotees are banned, not tolerated

Fetishization of disability is not dating. Profiles, messages, or photos expressing devotee interest are removed and the accounts banned. One strike. This is a floor, not a ceiling.

  5. Disclosure is neutral, not a confession

Our DatingsForum Deets section lets you list conditions, mobility aids, or communication preferences as plainly as you'd list your favorite food. It's information - not an apology.

  6. You are not a lesson

Partners can learn. They should. But you aren't required to be anyone's unpaid disability educator. "Please Google this" is a complete sentence here.

Real voices from our community

"I have Ehlers-Danlos and I'm mostly housebound. On other apps I got ghosted the second I mentioned my rollator. Here, the first guy who messaged me asked what time of day my pain was lowest. That was the whole conversation. Reader, I married him."
- Sarah, 24 · EDS, POTS, ME/CFS
"I have cerebral palsy and I was tired of being told I was 'brave' for being on dating apps. DatingsForum felt like adults talking to adults. My girlfriend and I met after nine months of slow messages. Nine months. On Tinder that's geological time."
- Marcus, 37 · Spastic CP, part-time wheelchair user
"As an autistic person I really need direct communication. The mood tags let me filter for people who also wanted 'direct' and 'calm.' No small talk roulette. Best UX decision on any dating site I've ever used."
- Priya, 29 · Autistic, ADHD

Questions, answered

Frequently asked questions

The questions we hear most before people join. Still unsure? Message the team.

Is there a Tinder for disabled people?

Yes - but "Tinder for disabled people" oversimplifies what disabled daters actually want. DatingsForum is a disabled dating site designed for authentic connection rather than swipe speed. We keep the simple, visual browsing that made Tinder approachable, but replace gamification with slower pacing, mood tags, neutral disability disclosure, and an enforced devotee ban.

Is there a free dating site for disability?

Yes. DatingsForum is free to join - no credit card required, no hidden paywall on basic messaging. Other inclusive options include Dateability, Hiki, and Disabled Passions, which each offer free access with optional paid features. Budget should never be the reason a disabled adult misses a connection.

Is it okay to date someone with a disability?

Yes. Disabled adults are adults, with full rights to romance, sex, and partnership. "Okay to date" is the wrong framing - the question is whether you are a respectful, curious, non-patronizing partner. If you can ask questions, accept answers, and plan accessible dates without fanfare, you are already qualified.

What types of disabilities does DatingsForum serve?

All of them. We host twelve dedicated community spaces covering mobility disabilities (wheelchair, amputee, cerebral palsy, dwarfism), sensory disabilities (Deaf community, blind and visually impaired), neurodivergence (autism, ADHD, AuDHD), intellectual disability (Down syndrome), and mental-health and chronic conditions (bipolar, epilepsy, PTSD). Members with conditions outside these labels - EDS, MS, MCAS, fibromyalgia, long COVID, and more - are equally welcome.

How do you protect members from "devotees" and fetishization?

We ban devotee behavior on sight. Every profile is reviewed by a human before approval. Reports are read by moderators, not bots. Profiles or messages expressing fetish interest in disability are removed and the account is banned - one strike. We publish our enforcement approach on our Safety & Privacy page.

Do I have to disclose my disability on my profile?

No. Our DatingsForum Deets section is optional. Many members list conditions and access needs upfront; others share after a few messages; some prefer to disclose in person. Your disability, your timeline. Read our disclosure guide for the script that feels right to you.

Is the site accessible with a screen reader or keyboard only?

Yes. DatingsForum targets WCAG 2.1 AA and is tested with NVDA, VoiceOver, and keyboard-only navigation. Video chat is captioned. Images have descriptive alt text. If you find an accessibility barrier, tell us - we treat these as priority bugs, not feature requests.

Take it at your pace. Your person is taking theirs too.

Create a free profile in under five minutes. Browse the community before you write a word. Message when you are ready - a day from now, a month from now, whenever.
