How DatingsForum works - online dating for disabled adults, step by step
Five calm steps from a free profile to a real connection. No streaks. No swipe counters. No paywall on the parts that matter. Just adults meeting adults, at a pace that respects your spoons.
Free to join · No credit card · Screen-reader tested · Devotee ban enforced
Five steps from sign-up to real connection
Each step takes as long as you want it to. Most members finish step one in under five minutes. Step five tends to take the rest of your life.
-
Create your free profile
Choose a first name, add a few photos that look like your actual life, and write a short "about me" in your own words. No personality quiz, no compatibility algorithm guessing at you. You can set your profile to hidden while you fill it out - visible only when you say so.
-
Browse the community
Read before you message. Scroll story previews, filter by mood tags, and get a feel for the rhythm of the place. You can browse the community for a day, a week, or a month before writing a single word - and nobody will push you.
-
Connect safely
Use in-app messaging without sharing your phone, address, or last name. Block and report are one tap away, and every report is read by a real human moderator - not a bot. Read receipts are off by default. Slow replies are normal here.
-
Plan your date
When you're ready to meet, use our accessibility checklist to choose a venue that actually works - step-free, quiet, well-lit, seated, captioned, whatever you both need. We include first-date ideas filtered by energy level, mobility, and sensory load.
-
Build your relationship
Your account stays yours. Keep chatting, add partners to a shared calendar, or pause your profile without deleting it. When you find your person, hide your profile with one click and come back if you ever need to. No exit survey. No guilt.
Introducing DatingsForum Deets
Deets is our optional disclosure field. It sits on your profile next to the everyday stuff - favorite food, love language, go-to karaoke song - so your disability reads as information, not a confession. You choose what to share, how specifically, and when.
Members fill their Deets with things like:
- Mobility & aids: manual chair, power chair, cane, crutches, rollator, service dog, none right now.
- Communication style: ASL native, lip-reading, text-first, voice notes welcome, please no phone calls.
- Energy pacing: low-spoon days common, evenings best, weekends only, housebound most weeks.
- Identity & conditions: autistic, AuDHD, Deaf, spoonie, interabled, CP, bipolar II, EDS - in your own words.
- Access needs for dates: step-free venues, low-light rooms, seating available, no strobes, breaks every 40 minutes.
Deets is searchable, but never required. Leave it blank, fill it in next month, or change it tonight. See how we protect this data →
Mood tags that show who you really are
Forget personality tests. Mood tags are short, honest words you pick yourself and wear on your profile like a favorite sweater. They help the right people find you and let you filter the feed to match how you actually want to connect - not how dating apps insist you should.
Pick up to eight. Change them any time. Filter the community by the tags you want in a partner - "direct + calm" is a popular combo for neurodivergent members; "spoonie + slow pace" for chronic-illness members looking for someone who already speaks their dialect.
Verification badges you can trust
Every DatingsForum profile is reviewed by a human moderator before it goes live. On top of that baseline check, members can earn three optional badges that help others feel safer messaging them. Badges are visible at a glance next to the profile name.
Human photo check
A moderator compares a short selfie video to your profile photos. No AI, no third-party vendor. The video is deleted within 30 days. Unlocks a sage checkmark on your profile.
Community vouch
Existing members in good standing can vouch for new members they know offline. Three vouches unlock a sage "known in community" badge - the same one used in Deaf, LPA, and spoonie circles.
Safety pledge
A one-page pledge that includes the devotee-ban acknowledgment, pronoun etiquette, and an anti-ableism commitment. Required to message anyone flagged as "newly disabled" or under 25.
Mod-reviewed since
Every profile shows its "reviewed since" date so you know how long it has been vetted. Older, quieter accounts look different from brand-new ones - useful context before you reply.
Built for screen readers, keyboards, and every access need
If a dating site isn't accessible, it isn't a dating site for disabled adults - it's a waiting room. We treat accessibility bugs as priority tickets, not feature requests, and we test every release with assistive tech before it ships.
Found a barrier? Email our accessibility team directly - we publish a response-time commitment on the contact page and fix confirmed issues before new features ship. Still have questions about how things work? The FAQ covers the rest.
