About DatingsForum - a disabled dating site built by and for our community
We are a disabled dating site and handicap dating service for adults who are done being ghosted, fetishized, or called "inspiring." Our only job is to help real people find real people, at a pace that respects real bodies and real minds.
The loneliness gap we're closing
DatingsForum started the way a lot of disabled-led projects start: someone got tired. Tired of the ableist pickup lines. Tired of explaining mobility aids to strangers before ever explaining their sense of humor. Tired of being told, kindly and ignorantly, that they were "brave" for swiping right.
In 2019-2020, researchers at the Brown University School of Public Health found that 65% of working-age disabled adults in the United States reported severe loneliness. By 2024, the number had climbed to 68%. Among non-disabled adults, the same measure sits around 8-10%. That is not a rounding error. That is a structural gap - carved by inaccessible spaces, ableist assumptions, and a decade of dating apps that rewarded snap judgments over whole-human connection.
We are not the first inclusive dating platform and we will not be the last. We stand on the shoulders of people like Jacqueline Child, who co-founded Dateability after experiencing ableism on mainstream apps, and the Special Bridge and Hiki communities who built safer rooms long before it was fashionable. DatingsForum is one more room - small, warm, well-lit, and with the door held open.
We exist because being disabled, chronically ill, Deaf, neurodivergent, or an ally open to interabled love should not sentence anyone to a smaller life. Our members are spoonies, wheelchair users, AuDHD writers, Deaf artists, veterans with PTSD, parents with epilepsy, and people whose diagnoses outnumber the characters in a bio. They are adults. They are hot. They are funny. And they deserve a dating platform that treats those things as baseline, not surprise.
The numbers behind why we exist
A disabled dating site is not a niche convenience - it is a response to documented inequity.
What we stand for
These are the four values our moderators enforce, our engineers build around, and our community holds each other to. They are short on purpose. A value you have to memorize is a value you will forget.
Inclusivity, across the whole spectrum
Twelve dedicated community spaces, and none of them are hierarchies. Wheelchair users, autistic adults, Deaf singles, people with Down syndrome, people dating with bipolar disorder or epilepsy or PTSD - everyone is a full member, not a category. LGBTQIA+ members are welcome and visible. Non-disabled allies are welcome when they come in as partners, not saviors.
Accessibility as a floor, not a feature
Our site targets WCAG 2.1 AA. We test with NVDA, VoiceOver, and keyboard-only navigation. Alt text is written by humans. Video chat is captioned. We treat accessibility bugs as priority bugs - not "nice to have" tickets that slide to next quarter.
Anti-ableism, enforced
Ableism is not a vibe here. Fetishization of disability - devotee behavior - is a one-strike ban. "Inspiration porn" in profile text is removed. Messages that reduce a person to their diagnosis are flagged and actioned by real moderators. We publish how we enforce this on our Safety & Privacy page so you can hold us to it.
Slow, intentional, and unhurried
No streaks. No 24-hour reply timers. No swipe counters guilting you into more activity. If your spoons say "reply next Tuesday," we built the product to agree. Connection is not a KPI.
How we're different from mainstream apps
Tinder, Bumble, and Hinge have made incremental moves in 2026 - Tinder added haptic feedback and alt text for its largest accessibility update to date, and Hinge deployed AI filtering for discriminatory language. We welcome that work. It is also not enough, and it is not the same thing as being built for disabled daters from the first line of code.
On mainstream apps, disclosure is an event. On DatingsForum, our Deets section lets you list conditions, mobility aids, or communication preferences the same way you'd list your favorite food - plain, neutral, and fully optional. Mainstream apps rely on automated review; we review every profile with a human before approval, because bots miss ableism in ways humans don't. Mainstream apps do not have a devotee policy; we do, and it is enforced on sight.
We also give up a few things on purpose. There is no algorithm pressuring you to upload more photos or message faster. There are no gamified streaks. There is no premium tier gating "who liked you" - that costs nothing on DatingsForum because charging disabled adults extra for basic visibility would be absurd. Join free. Stay free. Upgrade, if you ever do, because something genuinely useful is behind the upgrade - not because we squeezed the free tier until it hurt.
For a side-by-side, see the comparison table on our homepage, or read how it works end to end.
A note from the team
We built this because we needed it. Some of us are wheelchair users. Some of us are autistic. Some of us have chronic pain that decides the weather before the forecast does. We are not running a dating site at you - we are running it beside you. If something here feels off, tell us. We read every message, and we change things. - The DatingsForum team
We are a small, remote, disabled-led team working with accessibility consultants, community moderators, and a growing advisory circle of disabled daters, therapists, and disability-justice organizers. We are transparent about what we don't know yet, and we publish changes to our policies publicly. If you want to talk to us - about a feature, a concern, a press request, or a story - the contact page has the right door for each kind of conversation.
If you're ready, the next step is the warmest one: a free profile, built at your pace, on a disabled dating site that was made for exactly this.
