Safety & Privacy

Safety and privacy for disabled daters, done right.

This page is deliberately specific. You deserve to know exactly what DatingsForum does to keep this space safe, exactly how to protect yourself between profile creation and a first date, and exactly how your disability information is handled. No vague promises - just the commitments we enforce, the tools you control, and the data rules we live by.

What we do to keep this space safe

Trust is not a slogan; it is a set of operations. Four of ours matter most:

Human profile review before approval

Every profile - not a sample, every profile - is read by a trained moderator before it appears in the community. We check photos against reverse-image databases for catfishing, scan bios for ableist or fetish language, and confirm that the DatingsForum Deets disclosures look coherent. Profiles that fail review get a plain-language explanation and a path to re-submit. Bots and fake accounts are rejected at this gate, not after they message you.

Video verification, by your choice

Members can earn a yellow verification checkmark by completing a short captioned video prompt that confirms the face on the profile is the person behind it. Verification is optional but highly recommended - verified members are prioritized in search, and unverified members can still match with anyone. You can also require that your matches be verified before they message you.

Zero-tolerance devotee ban

Fetishization of disability is not dating, and it is not welcome here. Profiles, photos, messages, or usernames that express devotee interest are removed and the account is banned. One strike. We publish this policy on every community page so there is no ambiguity. If a member contacts you with devotee language, one tap on Report is enough - our team takes it from there.

Active, human-run moderation

Reports are triaged by real moderators within 24 hours and acted on within 72 hours, with priority escalation for safety threats and harassment. You can block any member instantly and permanently, and blocks are mutual - they cannot see you either. We do not use automated "shadow-banning." If we act on your account, you will always know why.

How to stay safe online dating, step by step

Platform safety does a lot. The rest is a short, repeatable protocol you can run on every new match. None of this is paranoia - it is just how adults meet strangers in 2026.

Personal information that should stay private until real trust is built: your home address, workplace address, financial details, social-security number, exact daily routine, and the names of family members who live with you. A match who pressures you for any of these - especially in the first weeks - is telling you something important about themselves.

Emotional safety

Emotional safety: disclosure on your terms

Scam prevention gets most of the airtime in "online dating safety tips" articles, but emotional safety is where disabled daters take the most damage. Feeling pressured to disclose too soon, too publicly, or in the wrong framing can do real harm - and it is also entirely avoidable on a platform built for you.

DatingsForum treats disability disclosure as information, not confession. Our Deets section is opt-in, field-by-field. You choose which conditions, mobility aids, communication preferences, or access needs appear on your profile, and which stay private until you decide otherwise. Some members disclose everything up front because it filters for the right matches; others share after three messages, three video calls, or three dates. The right timing is the one that feels right to you.

We also design for the pace that emotional safety actually needs. There are no read receipts shaming you for a slow reply. There are no streaks or 24-hour match timers. A conversation that takes a month to warm up is just as valid as one that catches fire in a weekend. Mood tags like calm, slow pace, and direct let you filter for people who match your communication rhythm, so you are not spending energy on matches whose default pace exhausts you.

If a conversation starts to feel wrong - patronizing language, unsolicited advice about your body, "inspirational" framing, pressure to meet sooner than you want - you can exit it without explanation. Blocking is silent, permanent, and mutual. You never owe anyone a reason for taking care of yourself.

Privacy

Your disability data is sensitive - we treat it that way

Under GDPR and in the spirit of CCPA, information about a person's health or disability is classified as sensitive personal data and deserves heightened protection. DatingsForum goes further than the legal minimum because it is obvious to us that our members expect it.

We do not sell your data. Ever. Not to advertisers, not to data brokers, not to research partners, not to "anonymized" analytics products that aren't really anonymous. Your Deets are not a product. The only people who see them are the members you choose to match with, and the moderators who keep this community safe.

We do not advertise against your disability. You will never be targeted with ads inside DatingsForum based on conditions, mobility aids, medications, or any other health information in your profile. Our revenue model does not depend on mining your body for ad inventory.

Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Profile content, messages, verification videos, and Deets disclosures are protected with industry-standard encryption. Verification videos are reviewed, confirmed, and then deleted within 30 days - they are used to verify, not to archive.

Deletion is one click and it is real. When you delete your DatingsForum account, your profile, photos, Deets, messages, and verification records are removed from our live systems within 7 days and purged from backups within 30. No "deactivation" that silently keeps your data around. The full legal treatment, including GDPR and CCPA rights, lives on our Terms & Privacy Policy page.

Questions, answered

Safety questions, answered

Still unsure? Message the Safety team directly or see the full FAQ.

How do I report someone who messaged me inappropriately?

Open their profile or your conversation with them and tap Report. Choose a reason (devotee behavior, harassment, ableist language, scam attempt, or other) and add a short note if you want. Reports are triaged by a human moderator within 24 hours and acted on within 72 hours, with urgent safety threats handled sooner. You can also tap Block at any time - blocking is silent, permanent, and mutual.

How is the devotee ban actually enforced?

Three ways. First, during human profile review, we screen bios, photos, and usernames for devotee language and imagery before the account goes live. Second, we use pattern detection on first-contact messages to flag devotee phrasing for moderator review. Third, any member can report a devotee profile or message in one tap. Confirmed devotee accounts are banned after a single incident - the ban is permanent and covers the person, their device, and their payment details where applicable.

How to stay safe online dating when I have limited energy for vetting?

Short version: rely on platform safeguards and a small repeatable checklist. Filter your search to verified members only. Keep messaging on DatingsForum instead of moving to SMS. Run one 10-minute captioned video call before any in-person meeting. Tell one trusted person your plan before a first date, meet in public, and keep your transport independent. That is the entire protocol - it fits on a sticky note and it catches the vast majority of bad actors.

If I delete my account, is my disability data really gone?

Yes. Account deletion removes your profile, photos, Deets disclosures, messages, and verification records from our live systems within 7 days and purges them from encrypted backups within 30 days. We retain only the minimum information required by law (for example, fraud or abuse logs tied to a banned account), and that minimum never includes the content of your Deets. You can request a full data export before deleting if you want a copy for your records.
